Tell Me What the Door Is Doing

When you call, tell me whether you heard a bang, the motor is running without moving the door, the door reverses, a cable looks loose, or the door is sitting out of line. Also tell me if your car is trapped inside and, if you know it, the door or opener brand. Those details give me a useful starting point, but I confirm the cause only after inspecting the door.

Repairs I Handle

Broken or worn springs

Springs counterbalance the door’s weight and operate under high tension. A loud bang followed by a door that feels unusually heavy can indicate a spring problem. Do not adjust or replace a spring yourself.

Motor and opener faults

A humming, clicking or intermittent opener can have several causes. I work on B&D, Merlin, Gliderol, ATA and Steel-Line systems and will explain whether adjustment, repair or replacement makes sense after inspection. For brand-specific information, see myMerlin Garage Door Repairs page.

Roller, cable and track problems

If the door is crooked, catching or has left its tracks, stop forcing it. Cables, rollers, tracks and door alignment need to be checked together because the visible symptom is not always the underlying cause. I also carry outroller door repairs.

Doors that reverse or will not close

Obstructions, alignment, safety-beam problems and other faults can cause a door to reverse or stop. Clear only anything obvious and safe to remove; do not bypass a safety device.
